Hazlewoods staff in swim marathon to help charity

Staff at Hazlewoods are taking the plunge in a “channel swim” to raise money for charity.

But it is not the English Channel they will be tackling – instead they plan to swim the equivalent distance of 21 miles at the GL1 swimming pool in Gloucester.

Hazlewoods staff, together with family and friends, will take part in the event on Saturday August 1 to raise money for the only Gloucestershire women’s refuge, Stroud Beresford Group, which is Hazlewoods’ charity of the year.

The swim has been organised by Senior Manager Suzanne Headington and Business Services Assistant Charlotte Barrett. Suzanne said: “We have about 20 people taking part and the distance they each swim will count towards the 21 miles.

“Hazlewoods raises funds for a charity every year but this is the first time we have held an event like this. It is a big challenge but everyone is up for it and determined to complete it in four hours.

“It is in support of a very worthwhile cause and I think this will motivate the swimmers to complete the distance.”

Stroud Beresford Group has been offering accommodation, advice and support for families affected by domestic abuse for over 35 years.

A local, independent charity it also offers outreach services in the community for those affected by domestic abuse and supports those at risk, helping children and their parents overcome their experiences.
