£13,600 raised for Gloucestershire women’s refuge

We are very proud of our community-minded staff at Hazlewoods, who this year have raised a total of £13,600 to help Stroud Beresford Group, Gloucestershire’s only women’s refuge.

Hazlewoods adopted Stroud Beresford Group as its Charity of the Year for 2015/16 and set about fundraising in a variety of ways, including a swimming marathon, Dragon Boat racing, raffles, quizzes and dress-down days.

It is a sad fact that on average two women a week are killed by a partner or ex-partner and at least 750,000 children a year witness domestic abuse. Stroud Beresford Group has been offering accommodation, advice and support to families affected by domestic abuse for over 35 years.

John Lucas, partner of Hazlewoods Social Committee, said, “Our Social Committee voted unanimously to support Stroud Beresford Group last year because it is such a worthwhile cause. As it is quite a small charity we hope we have made a big difference with the money we have raised. We also hope we have helped to raise the profile of the charity throughout the year."
