HMRC confirms that not all pension schemes need to file a Self Assessment Tax Return (SA970)

Last week HMRC issued a notice advising of the limited circumstances in which a pension scheme must submit a Self Assessment Tax Return for the year ended 5 April 2007.

If any of the following apply to your pension scheme you must submit a return:

• A form SA970 has been issued.
• The scheme has made a repayment claim in the last two years.
• The scheme is due a repayment of tax.
• The scheme has other tax liabilities to declare.

If none of the above apply, your pension scheme does not need to submit a return for 2006/07.
