Hazlewoods employees celebrate 100 years

Published: Friday 19 July 2019

Hazlewoods, the UK top 30 Business Advisers and Chartered Accountants celebrates its centenary year in 2019 and to mark the occasion the 360 strong firm took the opportunity to reflect on its 100-year history and discuss what the future looks like.

Technology was high on the agenda at this year’s conference; although developments in technology have undoubtedly changed working environments and automation is set to have ongoing impacts on the accounting industry, it was encouraging to hear that Hazlewoods partners and staff maintain that it is their people who make the real difference.

During interactive polls, staff voted overwhelmingly that health and wellbeing was the most discussed topic across the workplace; certainly, an encouraging sign and clear support for the comprehensive programme of activity that the firm’s HR team has developed over the past few years.

Furthermore, when asked to submit one word in answer to the question ‘What makes Hazlewoods different?’ the clear majority answered ‘people’, demonstrating the supportive nature and respect across the firm.

In the evening, it was a chance for everyone to relax with a birthday party designed to celebrate a successful 100 years. Cheltenham Ladies’ College and grounds provided the perfect location with selections of street food and a drinks reception on the lawns, and a variety of entertainment, from magicians to musicians, around the venue.

Managing Partner, Jon Cartwright, said: “Our staff conference always provides a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and discuss the business as a whole; we are always pleased with how engaged everyone is in driving our business forward.

“This year, it seemed a great opportunity to really celebrate our successes and what everyone who has been involved with Hazlewoods has worked to achieve over the last 100 years. We were so impressed with all of our speakers and the way that everyone embraced the celebration.”
