HSBC Export Seminar takes Gloucestershire to Brazil

Published: Tuesday 24 July 2012

HSBC Commercial Bank, Hazlewoods Accountants, Rickerbys Solicitors and UKTI recently invited a number of Gloucestershire businesses to an export seminar with a difference.

Hosted by HSBC Gloucestershire Commercial Centre, HSBC arranged a live link with its Head of Trade Services in Sao Paulo to give attendees useful advice and tips on exporting to Brazil – a growing economy - from somebody on the ground. Desmond Wee covered various aspects of trading with Brazil and took questions from the audience based in Cheltenham.

Meanwhile, John Dorman from UKTI covered various aspects of export to other countries with particular emphasis on China and Turkey.

The Seminar was followed by an excellent meal at the Spice Lodge where the attendees discussed the ideas presented at the seminar.

Andrew Willett, HSBC Gloucestershire Area Commercial Director, commented: “Being able to bring together like-minded business people to share ideas and best practice remains part of HSBC’s philosophy. To be able to invite our HSBC colleagues from Brazil to join the debate via video call takes the connectivity that HSBC can offer to another level.”

As part of Gloucestershire’s strategy to open up new markets, the Seminar gave some useful practical advice to potential and existing exporters.  David Williams, head of the Corporate Team at Hazlewoods, commented “Hazlewoods are proactively supporting clients’ export drives. We see the hosting of recent events, such as this seminar with HSBC and Rickerbys, as valuable to businesses looking to export into new markets and grow.”

Tim Walker, head of Rickerbys International Team commented: “We regard exporters as extremely important for growth of the local economy.  We are exporters ourselves and work with many clients who are exporters. The event was an ideal opportunity to add ‘value’ by offering Gloucestershire businesses some new perspectives on opening up emerging markets.”
