Health and Care Update - Hazlewoods achieve record year in Health and Care

Published: Tuesday 24 January 2017

2016 was a historic year for many publicised and overtly discussed reasons, all of which have been widely regarded with commentators providing daily thoughts.

The events of the EU referendum and US election have been linked by one word in the business community, ‘uncertainty’.

While we are yet to fully understand how the decisions of 2016 will impact businesses and the economy in 2017 onwards, Hazlewoods has a proven track record of supporting its clients through macro and micro economic cycles.

Despite the wider events of 2016, Hazlewoods Corporate Finance team, specialising in the Health and Care sector, have continued to see an increase in deal volumes during the year. The teams advised on 47 completed transactions valued at £260 million, representing an increase of 34% over 2015. There were also, sadly, a few that didn’t complete.

The increase in deal flow has led to expansion of the Health and Care team, which now includes 40 people.

Andy Brookes, Partner and Head of Health and Care commented “2016 has been another strong year for the Corporate Finance team who have delivered record results despite the wider economic headwinds.”

“The Health and Social Care market remains under pressure with the implications of the National Living Wage and additional uncertainty on medium to long term recruitment, as we wait to see the shape of the agreement negotiated in leaving the EU.”

“The pipeline for 2017 remains strong as Corporate acquirers continue to see the prospect for further growth. We view this year as providing opportunity for acquirers and buyers alike, where the uncertainty of Brexit is outweighed by the potential benefits of further consolidation.”
