The Bribery Act: Are you Aware?

Published: Wednesday 29 June 2011

You may be aware that the Bribery Act 2010 will come into force on 1 July 2011. It is designed to provide clearer guidance and tougher penalties on businesses and individuals who engage in bribery and corruption, whether they are on the giving or receiving end. Businesses can face prosecution under Section 7 of the Act if they fail to have procedures in place to prevent bribery by associated persons (e.g. employees).

The Ministry of Justice website contains useful guidance that can be found at the link below:

The guidance points out that an organisation's procedures should be proportionate to the level of risk of bribery occurring, and it may therefore be the case that many businesses can respond to the requirements of the Act swiftly and easily.
