Veterinary update: Spotlight on… Robert Groves

Published: Tuesday 19 October 2021

The Hazlewoods Veterinary team is made up of individual people that work together towards a common goal. In this series, we are putting the spotlight on some of them, so you can get to know us better. The third person in our series is Director, Robert Groves.

How did your career with Hazlewoods start and develop?

I started as an AAT trainee and continued my training into ACCA before qualifying as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2015. I have now been at Hazlewoods for over 11 years and in the Veterinary team for 10 years!

What drew you to Hazlewoods originally and what made you continue your career with the firm?

What initially made me want to join Hazlewoods was their apprenticeship program, as this meant that I could join straight from A levels. One of the main things that made me continue my career with the firm is the supportive and friendly nature of the different teams I get to work with.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Personally, it was getting married in August 2021!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The variety. When working in the Veterinary team, no two jobs are the same and there are always new areas of accountancy and tax to explore.

What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?

If you do not know something, just ask! Do not try and muddle through on your own as this will end up costing you precious time. If you are willing to ask, there will always be someone willing to help.

What should clients be currently thinking?

We live in an ever-changing business landscape, so there are many things to think about at all times. At the moment, I believe it is crucial for clients to consider how best to recruit and retain staff. It is also important to figure out what separates them from everyone else and how to market it.

Who would you most like to meet and why?

Tom Stoltman.Tom is a 27-year-old from Scotland who has autism and won the 2021 World’s Strongest Man. I find him very inspiring, as he is the living proof that anything can be achieved if you work hard enough at it.

Tell us something we might not know about you?

I am a keen skier (not very good at snowboarding) and try to go at least once a year!
