ID Guidance

Why we need to verify your identity

These checks are a legal requirement to:

  • Comply with UK Anti-Money Laundering Regulations.
  • Prevent money laundering, fraud, and other financial crimes.
  • Confirm that individuals are who they claim to be.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us meet these important compliance obligations.

Hazlewoods – Client Identity Verification Requirements

Proof of Identity (Photo ID) Please provide one of the following:

  • A clear, full-colour photo of your valid passport (photo page only).
  • A clear, full-colour photo of your driving licence (photo side only).

Important notes:

  • The image must be in focus, uncropped, and show all four corners of the document.
  • The machine-readable zone (MRZ) must be visible (for passports).
  • The document must be in date and not expired.
  • If you have not been met by a member of Hazlewoods, either in person or via a video call, the document must be certified. Please see further details on the Government website.

Alternative verification:

  • To avoid the need for certification, we can offer a brief Microsoft Teams call with a member of our team (usually the team secretary) to verify your ID. If this option is more convenient for you, please let your Hazlewoods contact know, and we will arrange a suitable time.

Exemptions:

  • If you are a member of a professional body or regulated with the FCA, an ID document is not required. We will require proof of registration.
  • A full list of professional bodies is listed below.
  • Please note if registered with SRA/Law Society, you must be currently practising law.

If you do not have a valid passport or driving license, please get in touch with your Hazlewoods contact, who will be able to assist.
