The UK is set to re-join the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme supporting science and research after a three years hiatus. Since 2020 the UK had been frozen out of Horizon Europe for not fulfilling its commitments to the Northern Ireland Protocol, a situation resolved in February 2023 with the Windsor Framework.
From today (7 September 2023) UK researchers are able to apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon Europe programme, which runs to 2027 with a budget of €95.5bn.
Once adopted, the UK will also be able to join the governance of EU programmes with UK companies and researchers able to lead consortia in the next work programme of Horizon Europe projects.

Hopefully this will allow them now to get back on track in partnering with European businesses, after being closed out of the programme for the last few years.”
