Mike Hayes is an Audit Manager in our Audit team. He tells us about his varied career so far, and why a move to Hazlewoods has been a great step.
Career history
I started my accountancy career in 2014 as a finance apprentice working for a further education college, moving into practice shortly after. I have held a number of roles within accountancy practices of various sizes and have experience providing a range of services from self-assessment tax returns to complex transaction accounting projects to group audits.
Move to Hazlewoods
After several years in my previous role, I wanted to join a firm whose growth matched my own aspirations. Hazlewoods has achieved a large amount of organic growth but still retains its sense of identity and offers a supportive culture. The audit team have allowed me some flexibility whilst I navigate nursery runs for my young daughter, which has been great.
Transition from industry back into practice
Moving to Hazlewoods has been a great step for my career. I now manage complex audit engagements within the Large Corporates & International specialist sub-team, which keeps the work interesting and challenging. The firm provides excellent training opportunities (which are often courses put on by one of many in-house experts) which you are actively encouraged to attend by management.
If you’re interested in joining Hazlewoods, please see our current vacancies.
