Autumn Budget 2026: Foreign permanent establishments

The previous ability to elect into the foreign branch exemption has been removed and has now become mandatory.

All foreign branches of overseas companies will be exempt from UK corporation tax; the downside being that, as before, foreign branch losses will no longer be available to set off against UK taxable profits.

The changes will have effect from 1 January 2027.
