Veterinary update: Temporary changes to Companies House filing requirements

Published: Thursday 2 July 2020

Accounts

For those practices who are a company or limited liability partnership (LLP), if your filing deadline for accounts falls anytime from 27 June 2020 to 5 April 2021 (inclusive) you are likely to receive an automatic 3 month extension. Therefore instead of your accounts being filed at Companies House within 9 months of the year end, you now have 12 months.

There are some exceptions, for instance if you have already had an extension granted, you have changed your accounting reference date to an earlier date or this is your first year accounts, however in the majority of cases it will apply.

You can check the filing deadline here however, we will advise you of the revised date at the appropriate time. Companies House are updating their site in stages.

Confirmation Statement

The current 14 day deadline (from the end of your review period that the confirmation statement covers) will be extended to 42 days. Again, this is an automatic extension for all filings between 27 June 2020 and 5 April 2021 (inclusive).

Hopefully, any reminders regarding the filing of confirmation statements from now onwards will include the new timeframe. Any reminders that have recently been sent out or you receive in the next few days may not have been updated appropriately for the new timeframe, so you might want to check on the Companies House website for the actual date (same link as above).

Event Driven filings

Additional time is also granted to file details of certain company events. This also increases to 42 days.

Further information on all the above can be found on the Companies House website here.
