Retirement advice to client having sold their business

Background: A client approached us, having sold their business upon retirement, looking for advice on how to achieve their future income needs. They had received a significant lump sum and were unsure how best to structure their income going forward for optimum tax and investment efficiency.

How we helped: We reviewed their current and longer term needs and objectives and put together a bespoke investment portfolio in line with their risk tolerance, making use of available allowances to ensure their income was paid in a tax efficient manner. Through using cash-flow modelling we were able to demonstrate the likelihood of them achieving their retirement plans under various scenarios.

Addressing client protection needs

Background: Existing clients of Hazlewoods had decided to go self-employed and were concerned with ensuring they had suitable protection in place for their family.

How we helped: We highlighted that they would no longer be entitled to employer funded benefits, such as death in service and sick pay. We reviewed their family financial position, and identified several protection shortfalls, particularly regards their mortgage. We put in place suitable protection to help repay their mortgage should they pass away or suffer illness, providing peace of mind.
